Trombonist Christ‑Stéphane Boizi is one of the most compelling new voices in British jazz.
On Tuesday 3rd November he launches his debut album As The Spirit Leads live at London’s Pizza Express Jazz Club in Dean Street, Soho.
Jazzwise magazine gave it a 4* review, describing it as “vulnerable, talkative and authentic while remaining enthralling and precise”. It’s also a former One Jazz ‘Chosen One’, our album of the week, when it was released on October 2nd on Banger Factory Records.
It is a deeply personal statement about Christian faith, family, mentorship and the power of musical community, expressed through contemporary acoustic jazz, hard bop, gospel and spiritual jazz. Christ-Stéphane brought together a talented group of musicians, with the established saxophonist Ruben Fox and vibraphonist Jonny Mansfield joining the ensemble on selected tracks.
See Christ-Stéphane Boizi and his band at London’s Pizza Express Jazz Club Live on Tuesday November 3rd.
