TOMORROW’S WARRIORS TAKEOVER

Steppin’ Over feat Gary Crosby
Gary Crosby + guest Tap Dancer – Annette Walker
Kassa GJ Quartet*  (*Kassa Green-Jakcsi)

Gary Crosby OBE

A pre-eminent figure in UK jazz, it’s hard to overstate the impact that Gary Crosby has made on the UK jazz scene, as a bassist in the original Jazz Warriors, founder of Gary Crosby’s Nu Troop, Jazz Jamaica, and Nu Civilisation Orchestra, band leader of Groundation, and more, his musicality stretches across the genre. However, it is as Co-Founder of Tomorrow’s Warriors that his impact is perhaps most profound – so it’s fitting that, on his birthday, Gary takes a solo spotlight for an evening where he will be surrounded by just some of the young jazz talent that he has helped nurture. Gary will be joined by special guest Annette Walker, one of the leading exponents of a new generation of tap dancers, whose graceful syncopation will lock in with Gary’s deep bass vibes.

JAZZ IN THE ROUND is at the forefront of new sounds, offering a performance platform for emerging artists and programming them alongside top-shelf headliners.

JAZZ IN THE ROUND’s flagship in-the-round night is held once a month at The Cockpit in Marylebone, and has become one of the most revered nights in the London Jazz calendar. Each session consists of three sets: An EMERGENCE slot for new and emerging acts, a solo slot – often an artist breaking away from a group to explore something new, and a headline slot playing host to a roster of Jazz’s finest musicians.

In addition, JAZZ IN THE ROUND programs on-your-feet EMERGENCE gigs, one-off nights in pubs, stages at festivals, and shows for the EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL, maintaining an ethos for grassroots platforming, and supporting artists at the start of their career.

Jazz In The Round is a Cockpit Production and a proud partner with One Jazz on their monthly sessions at The Cockpit.
