With his 75th birthday around the corner Bill Frisell shows no signs of slowing down his recording, touring or innovating. In fact he’s chosen to celebrate this landmark by putting together yet another new band, this time peopled with some of his greatest musical friends, folks he’s collaborated with so wonderfully over many decades. The string trio of violin player Jenny Scheinman, cellist Hank Roberts and viola virtuoso Eyvind Kang are to the fore in a band completed by regular rhythm pals Tomas Morgan on bass and Rudy Royston on drums.
Inspired by an incredibly vivid dream Bill had some three decades ago the album seeks to get close to the purity and vibrancy of what he experienced in that transformative twilight moment that changed forever how he thinks about music.“There have been times, over the years,” Frisell says, “where I’d be playing with these guys and it felt like I was approaching that dream I had all those years ago, where all that music was happening simultaneously.”
Under the expert production hand of long-time collaborator Lee Townsend In My Dreams flawlessly merges live concert recordings and studios sessions.
Keep dreaming Bill.
This is our Chosen One.
