Superb Canadian-born, UK-based trumpet player Jay Phelps celebrates the vast repertoire and enduring impact of jazz’s most iconic figure — Miles Davis.

This Miles at 100 celebration takes place in the beautiful and intimate surroundings of Abney Park Cemetery Chapel in Stoke Newington, North London on Sunday 31st May (12:30 and 2:30). Jay Phelps is one of the leading trumpet players and bandleaders on the UK scene. He has performed with world-class artists including Wynton Marsalis, Shabaka Hutchings and Amy Winehouse. Throughout his diverse career, he has consistently championed the music of his great hero, Miles Davis. Jay regularly plays sold-out shows across the UK, performing Miles’ seminal album Kind of Blue in full. Most recently, he co-starred in the acclaimed, sold-out theatre production Miles at the Southwark Playhouse.

For these special, intimate performances, Jay will present a selection of classic music associated with Miles, alongside stories that bring the music vividly to life. He will be accompanied by Reuben James on keys.

Born in May 1926, Miles Davis redefined jazz repeatedly over an extraordinary 45-year career. Constantly evolving and embracing new musical directions, he refused to stand still — shaping not just jazz, but the wider landscape of modern music. His influence remains as powerful as ever, continuing to inspire new generations of listeners and musicians alike.
