Born in Northern Germany, Uwe Steinmetz has been working as a composer, saxophonist and lecturer since his school days in over 40 countries and received national and international awards for his artistic work. He composed for, among others, the British Fitzwilliam String Quartet, the NDR Big Band, the Athesinus Consort Berlin and Eric Ericson’s Kammerkor. In his latest trio CD „Pilgrimage“ he explores with his band mates Anders Jormin and Arne Jansen the spiritual paths of travelling to sacred places around the world.
As a scholar, Uwe has authored and co-edited five books on the religious dimension of jazz and focuses in his current research on spiritual jazz as a stream of global devotional music. He gladly explores these dimensions more deeply through the Spiritual Jazz Show on One Jazz.
