Efraín Alavez is a journalist and the founder of Contratiempo Jazz, a website that has covered the Mexican jazz scene for more than thirteen years. He has interviewed leading Latin and international musicians such as Chucho Valdés, Miguel Zenón, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Arturo O’Farrill, Antonio Sánchez, Orlando “Maraca” Valle and Magos Herrera.
Alavez has reported on major festivals including Festival Internacional Cervantino, Festival Internacional JazzUV, Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, as well as international events such as Jazz in July (92NY), SummerStage (Central Park) and Picnic Performances (Bryant Park) in New York City.
His work has played a key role in documenting and amplifying the creative energy of Latin American jazz for global audiences.
