In 2023, If Music marked two decades at the forefront of Black and Underground music culture. Under proprietor, curator and DJ Jean-Claude Thompson it is recognised by connoisseurs the world over as one of the finest Black Music shops on the planet, their client list reading like a who’s who of the global scene.

To celebrate this milestone, If Music curated unforgettable experiences: a full 10-hour Roller Disco stage at Cross the Tracks, a headline late-night slot at Love Supreme and continuous monthly residencies at The Standard Hotel in London. Alongside these live events If Music have released three acclaimed albums through their label partnership with BBE Music. In 2024, they extended this legacy with the Handson Family compilation via the If Music Presents: You Need This! imprint.

As one half of legendary London music makers The Amalgamation of Soundz, Jean-Claude spent 11 years as a resident DJ at London’s Fabric club from its opening night, held monthly sessions at Plastic People for two decades, headlined the Dance Village at Glastonbury 2005, and countless summers at The Big Chill — all while running the mythical Jazz Lounge at Release the Groove (1995–2002).

Jean-Claude is also celebrating 45+ years as a DJ including having played all the raves during the “2nd summer of love” (88-89) and residencies at: Troll @ The Soundshaft (Heaven), Billstickers, The Limelight, Shaftesbury’s and more.

In 2025 If Music released 2 new albums: Deep Jazz vol.4 and World Jazz Grooves Vol. 2, co-compiled with Victor Kiswell.

Jean-Claude joins One Jazz to host If Music Presents: You Need This!, special thematic and curated shows and mixtapes – beginning with a focus on the late drummer Jack DeJohnette.
