Sean Foran


Sean Foran is an award-winning Australian pianist, composer, broadcaster and educator based in Brisbane. An ARIA and AIR award nominee, AIR Award winner, eight-time Queensland Music Award recipient, Brisbane City Council Emerging Artist Fellow, APRA/AMC State Award for Excellence winner, and International Songwriting Competition finalist, Sean has spent more than two decades performing, recording and championing contemporary music in Australia and around the world.

As a musician, he is best known for acclaimed ensembles including ‘Trichotomy’ and ‘Berardi/Foran/Karlen’, with performances across Europe, the UK, Asia and the Americas. His music blends jazz, improvisation, chamber music and contemporary sound worlds, earning a reputation for lyrical depth and creative exploration.

Alongside his artistic career, Sean is Head of School: Sound, at SAE University College Australia, where he leads higher education programs in music and audio while continuing an active practice as a performer, composer and researcher.

On his One Jazz show Southern Sounds, Sean brings his experience as both artist and educator to showcase the best of contemporary Australian jazz, highlighting new releases, emerging voices and the diverse creative communities shaping the sound of Australian music today.
