The Solomon Gundy Band fuses jazz, electronica, and Afro-diasporic rhythms, creating a vibrant and haunting sound that combines virtuosity with working-class grit. Their music is as flavourful as the Jamaican dish they are named after. Solomon Gundy is a spicy Jamaican pickled Herring paste usually served with crackers as an appetizer or hors d’oeuvre. The term is originally from the French word “salmigondis”, which refers to a disparate assembly of things, ideas, or people forming an incoherent whole

Ed Hogben is a London-based trumpeter exploring uncharted territory with his instrument. Using a MIDI harmoniser, he’s able to play chords in real time – essentially fulfilling the role of piano or guitar in a jazz trio. A recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Hogben has adapted the harmoniser as a live improvising tool in ways that haven’t been done before. His approach has resonated widely online, with performances capturing attention across the jazz community and beyond. Drawing on influences from Miles Davis and Tom Harrell, Hogben is opening up fresh possibilities for what a trumpet can be in jazz.
JAZZ IN THE ROUND is at the forefront of new sounds, offering a performance platform for emerging artists and programming them alongside top-shelf headliners.
JAZZ IN THE ROUND’s flagship in-the-round night is held once a month at The Cockpit in Marylebone, and has become one of the most revered nights in the London Jazz calendar. Each session consists of three sets: An EMERGENCE slot for new and emerging acts, a solo slot – often an artist breaking away from a group to explore something new, and a headline slot playing host to a roster of Jazz’s finest musicians.
In addition, JAZZ IN THE ROUND programs on-your-feet EMERGENCE gigs, one-off nights in pubs, stages at festivals, and shows for the EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL, maintaining an ethos for grassroots platforming, and supporting artists at the start of their career.
Jazz In The Round is a Cockpit Production and a proud partner with One Jazz on their monthly sessions at The Cockpit.
