After Finn Peter’s long-awaited return Stargazers was our Chosen One last week, our final selection of the year comes from another excellent returning UK sax-man James Allsopp.
On ‘Stars And Sand’, he shows all aspects of his range as a player and composer bringing together a new lineup featuring alto saxophonist Steve Buckley (Loose Tubes) electric bassist Tom Herbert (Polar Bear) and the emergent Dave Storey on drums and percussion. Allsop himself plays tenor saxophone, bass clarinet and keyboards. However, co-producer and remixer Ben Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) plays a vital role, adding a dimension of psychedelia and dubwise interpolations to these pieces.
This is our Chosen One.
