Miles – Live jazz and theatre exploring the life and legend of Miles Davis

Following an acclaimed sell-out run at Edinburgh Fringe 2025, the musical play MILES, written and directed by Oliver Kaderbhai, is now playing a month-long run at London’s Southwark Playhouse.

Conceived by acclaimed trumpeter Jay Phelps and performed alongside actor Benjamin Akintuyosi, the duo bring to life a shifting cast of characters — including Miles Davis himself — travelling through time, memory and musical influence.

Reflecting on the production’s London run, Kaderbhai said:

“Bringing Miles’ story to Southwark Playhouse Borough 100 years after his birth feels like the perfect place to explore the legacy of a complex man whose music transcends time, place and race whilst being rooted in all of those things.”

Inspired by Davis’ autobiography, extensive research and archival recordings, MILES captures the sound, pressure and innovation of an artist who reshaped modern music. The production has been described as “a hypnotic, smoke-laced fever dream,” exploring addiction, reinvention and the explosive cost of genius.

The show received strong critical acclaim during its Edinburgh run, with The Times saying:

“This hypnotic play… works superbly” ★★★★
