Jasper Høiby’s We Must Fight is a compelling 36‑minute musical ride, repackaging some of his most thrilling Phronesis compositions under the Fellow Creatures banner. Through bold new arrangements crafted by saxophonist Alex Hitchcock, familiar tunes such as “Blue Inspiration”, “Lipwash”, and “French” gain fresh interplay, layered textures, and renewed urgency. For those who mourn the demise of Jasper’s explosive Phronesis trio this project brings some solace as the brilliant Danish bassist ( and One Jazz host!) mines his own back catalogue: ” These compositions are part of my DNA, but they had more to say”.
Over the last decade Høiby has increasing used his music as a vehicle for his political and moral stances, particularly around environmental issues and We Must Fight continues that admirable approach ” The title refers to the importance of speaking up, to fight for what matters and use our freedom to support those without. I have to fight. Against injustice and for those who have nothing. I have to stand up against people who wage war and speak my mind like never before. I can no longer just be silent.
