Snowpoet – Heartstrings (Edition)

Now in to their second decade the band Snowpoet occupy a fairly unique position in modern music.  The press release for the album takes several stabs at describing them and lands on  “jazz-adjacent” and “electro-acoustic crossover”. The truth is their blissful sonic world floats independently free of all labelling. It’s kind of in a category of one. The reason for that lives in the magic of the duo at the heart of Snowpoet – producer, composer, synth player Chris Hyson and lyricist, composer and singer Lauren Kinsella. Between them they conjure a music that is both deeply emotional, sonically progressive and simultaneously modern and steeped in a folkish tradition.

Unlike previous recordings Heartstring was made “organically” in the studio, with in-the-moment improvisation, writing and production. “We wanted to capture the moment to create something that feels real, unfiltered, and alive,” says Chris Hyson. The result is a new depth of sound to complement their electro-acoustic world. “The sound of this record is richer, bigger, more expansive, representative of the culmination of everything we have done so far” Says Lauren Kinsella.

Kinsella is a vocalist who consistently brings meaning to everything she sings and demands an emotional reaction from the listener. Here her lyrics are clearly very personal, of the heart, and the effect is often spellbinding.

This is music for fans of poetry, ambient, folk and electronica as well as “jazz-adjacent” lovers!

This is our album of the week until Friday 30th May 2025.
